Beverly
Allen
Nov 3, 1934 — Sep 12, 2019
Beverly Jane Allen of Crawfordsville passed away Thursday in the Emergency Room at Franciscan Health. She was 84.
Born Nov. 3, 1934 in Crawfordsville, she was the daughter of Mason Fyffe and Dorothy Fyffe. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School. She married John H. Allen and he passed away in 1998. Bev worked at R. R. Donnelley and retired early from there because she had completed her cosmetology license and went to work at Merle Norman, where she also worked many years.
Bev was a very caring and loving person. She used to say that when she became a grandma for the first time it changed her life for the better and that she had never been happier. Her love for her family and friends was never ending. She is known by people all over town as Grandma Bev or Aunt Bev to people that aren't even blood. She prided herself on meeting and memorizing everyone that she met and more than likely already knew someone related to them. People used to joke with her that she was Crawfordsville's "walking, talking library" and she was proud of it. There were no strangers in her world. She enjoyed going to Sunday church service to multiple churches. Her faith was very important to her. Other than being with her grandchildren as much as she possibly could, she absolutely loved going out to eat. She was always a regular at the Strawberry Festival and almost every fish fry. She loved going to Thorntown and eating catfish, and listening to bands and dancing. She knew every local band/bandmembers and used to count down until they performed next. Grandma Bev will be incredibly missed, but we all know she is in a better place with Jesus and deceased loved ones by her side.
Surviving family includes: her son, Shane Wilson (Kim Cosby) of Crawfordsville; three granddaughters, Kisha Deck (Chris), Candice Thornburg (Scott), Makaley Cegielski (Brian); sister, Marilyn Lashley; beloved family friend, Evelyn White; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Robert Mason Fyffe and a son, Robert "Bob" Wilson in January 2019.
Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Avenue. Services will begin at 1, after which she will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
