Obituary

Andrew John Schweighardt of Crawfordsville passed away Monday afternoon at home.  He was 83.

Mr. Schweighardt served his country in the U.S. Navy.  He later served as a volunteer at several places, including at St. Clare Hospital, having previously been a CNA and pharmacy tech in North Carolina.  He was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.  He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, having served as a Franciscan lay person.  He was also a member of American Legion Post 777, and the Darlington Gun Club.  He worked for the electric company in New Jersey, Pennsylvania Power and Light and retired as a mechanical engineer from Hamilton Standard.

Born Sept. 8, 1936 in Passaic, New Jersey, he was the son of Andrew Schweighardt and Julia Fryzel Schweighardt.  He graduated from high school in Garfield, New Jersey and later earned a degree from Lackawanna Junior College.  He married Virginian Magans on April 19, 1964 in Rochelle Park, New Jersey.  She survives.

Surviving family includes: wife, Virginia Schweighardt; son, Keith Schweighardt; daughter, Christine Foster; brother, Robert Schweighardt; sister, Elaine Murphy; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.  A Memorial Mass will be announced as restrictions on public gatherings are lifted.  Inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
